Smoking in Pregnancy Service

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) has been commissioned by NHS England to provide community pharmacy provision of Nicotine Replacement Therapy to clients of The Rotherham NHS Smoking in Pregnancy Service.

The aim of this service is to increase the availability of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) free of charge to all patients registered with an NHS Rotherham GP or Rotherham resident via a voucher scheme, through Pharmacies in the Rotherham Borough.  To maintain access for service users across Rotherham for the provision of Nicotine Replacement Therapy allied to The Rotherham NHS Smoking in Pregnancy Service.

When presented with the Client Assessment Form Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT Voucher) the Pharmacist must confirm that the NRT preparation/s recommended and dispensed on the voucher is/are clinically appropriate for the client & name, sign & date the voucher.

The pharmacist must ensure the GP copy of the completed voucher is sent to the clients GP in a timely manner. This must not exceed one calendar month

Governance
Each Practitioner will be required to operate under the PGD issued by TRFT and records will be audited accordingly.

Comply with the National Health Service (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2012 Number 1909 for the delivery of Essential Services. Provide Rotherham NHS Smoking in Pregnancy Service with a premises specific e-mail address which is accessed by the pharmacy at least once a day during opening times

Training
Prior to commencement of the service each Community Pharmacist operating on behalf of a participating Pharmacy must complete relevant training, be accredited, be able to meet the Patient Group Directive requirements and hold a current contract to provide the service with TRFT

  • The practitioner must be aware of any change to the recommendations for the medication used as part of the voucher scheme. It is the responsibility of the individual to keep up-to-date with continued professional development and to work within the limitations of their scope of practice
  • Practitioner must have access to product information leaflet, current BNF and updated DoH advice where appropriate
  • Keeps updated via departmental updates and meetings
  • Complies with the National Health Service (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2012 Number 1909 for the delivery of essential services.

Remuneration
All claims must be entered on PharmOutcomes for payment. Providers will be required to submit their claims by no later than the 10th working day of the following month and payment will be made on a monthly basis. 

The PharmOutcomes report will generate the amount of monies that will be paid to pharmacists for the dispensing fee/s and Nicotine Replacement Therapy that they have issued within that month.

Contract Arrangements
Pharmacists wishing to continue in this scheme or participating for the first time will be required to notify TRFT by email to Angela Trezise – Contract Lead to ensure formal contract documentation is issued timely.
